Women’s Self Defense

Women’s self-defense is an immediate experience of empowerment and freedom.

Whether you have past experiences or are worried about possibilities in the future, self-defense is a character building class for any attendee, from the inside out. Nairobi Jiu Jitsu firmly believe that women of Nairobi should experience the widee ranging benefits of attending self-defense classes. We do classes as a course rather than individual drop-ins to ensure you can actually retain what you’ve learned beyond that 90-minute class!

Coach Shiggi brings over 15 years of experience with her physical and event security background, extensive certified fitness and mobility background and is currently a 1-stripe purple belt in Brazilian Jiu Jitsu with 8 years of constant training across Europe and USA. The course she has created for Nairobi Jiu Jitsu blends real world experiences with behavioural psychological applications through simple martial arts concepts.

Every time you attend the course, you can build on top of what you’ve learned and engrain your learning to a deeper level.

She is also focused on building Women’s Brazilian Jiu Jitsu in Kenya, so if you want a fun and super engaging start to your Brazilian Jiu Jitsu training, you can drop into one of the Women’s Intro to BJJ classes that happen in between the courses. Read on to find out more!

Self-defense should not be thought of as a “one-and-done” endeavour, there is always something new to learn and explore. Whilst training in self defense on a regular basis will certainly reduce the success of an attack, it is never zero. That’s why we encourage you to figure out a training schedule you can stick to whilst still addressing life requirements. A key factor to being able to reliably recall what you’ve learned is repetition!

Currently the 8-week/session courses will be running over the following periods on Saturdays from 3.30pm to 5pm:

  • April – May
  • August – October
  • January – March

During the quieter months there will be a weekly rolling Women’s Introduction to Brazilian Jiu Jitsu class available as a standard gym drop-in on Saturdays from 3.30 to 4.30pm
